The Canadian Folk Music Awards have announced this year’s performers

The board of the Canadian Folk Music Awards has announced the performer line-up for the 15th annual CFMA weekend, which is being held, for the first time ever, in Charlottetown, PE. The awards weekend consists of two nights of awards ceremonies, Friday, Apr. 3 and Saturday Apr. 4, which also feature showcase performances by several nominees.

The events take place at the Delta Prince Edward, and shows are open to the public.  Tickets and weekend passes are available now online and will be available in person for purchase at Back Alley Music in Charlottetown. 

Here are this year’s performers, along with the categories in which they are nominated.

Friday, Apr. 3 – Canadian Folk Music Awards Ceremony Night 1

  • Vishtèn (Trad Album; Ensemble; Pushing the Boundaries)
  • Kaia Kater (English Songwriter; Album – Producer)
  • Ayrad (World Group)
  • Leaf Rapids (Contemporary Album)
  • Tri-Continental (Pushing the Boundaries)
  • Lennie Gallant (Contemporary Album; English Songwriter; Album – Producer)

Saturday, Apr. 4 – Canadian Folk Music Awards Ceremony Night 2,

  • Eastern Owl (Indigenous Songwriters)
  • Geneviève & Alain (Vocal Group)
  • Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys (New/Emerging Artists) 
  • Abigail Lapell (Contemporary Album; English Songwriter)
  • Le Vent du Nord (Trad Album)
  • Irish Mythen (Solo Artist)

Hosted in English and French by Newfoundland singer-songwriter Jean Hewson and iconic Quebec musician Benoit Bourque – who has played with Éritage, Ad vielle que pourra, Matapat and Le Vent du Nord among others – the two shows will see a total of 20 awards handed out, including the Slaight Unsung Hero Award.

Doors for the shows open at 7 p.m. nightly, and shows begin at 7:30. Seating will be a mix of cabaret style and standard concert seating, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Cash, credit and debit cards are all accepted, and ATM machines are available on site.

Adult (19+): $60.00

Youth (4-18): $30.00

Infant – 3: free admission

Tickets for individual shows:

Adult (19+): $35.00

Youth (4-18): $20.00

Infant – 3: free admission

CFMA Attendees are eligible to access the CFMA discounted rate at the Delta Hotel of $139/night + taxes/fees. This rate is available only until March 2, 2020, or until capacity is reached.
