Roots Music Canada is your home on the web for everything to do with Canadian folk, roots, blues, and “world” music and related genres.  We define these terms broadly to include everything from traditional Celtic groups to contemporary singer-songwriters to Indigenous hip hop artists.

The site was founded on Nov. 17, 2009, Gordon Lightfoot’s 71st  birthday, by Andy Frank and David Newland – along with Meghan Sheffield, Trevor Mills and Candace Shaw.  It grew into a vibrant destination for fans of Canadian roots music but then slowly fizzled out between about 2012 and 2015.  On April 3, 2018, it relaunched under the direction of long-time independent roots publicist Heather Kitching, with backing from more than 25 record labels, promoters, publicists, artists and fans.

Roots Music Canada is primarily written by a team of volunteers, with additional contributions from our industry partners, who post news about the projects they are working on.
