The Lynne(das)? Linda McRae and Lynne Hanson are playing Victoria tonight

Victoria concert-goers are in for a treat tonight as Lynne Hanson and Linda McRae, both with brand new albums, take the stage at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre’s Upstairs Lounge (check out their latest videos below).

Lynne Hanson is known for her hard-living style of music, mixing gritty ballads with driving roots-tinged guitar. Her deep, bluesy croon is pure and full of fortitude, and she’s drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams with a touch of Gillian Welch thrown in. She has the uncommon ability to interpret the roots of Americana music by combining sensual blues with delicious country-folk numbers. Lynne has toured the US, Europe and the UK, showcased in Austin, TX and Memphis, TN, toured in support of Grammy nominated artists Gretchen Peters and Steve Forbert, and opened for Grammy-award winning guitar legend Albert Lee. She received a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination in 2009 and won the prestigious Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award in 2010.

Linda McRae is a Canadian, US-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, a BC Entertainment Hall of Fame Pioneer Inductee and a former member of Spirit of the West. Her unforgettable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics make her a captivating and sought-after artist. Playing banjo and singing in a strong alto, Linda offers a masterful and stirring set of songs that take you on a sonic journey while steadily cracking open your heart. Linda has performed in venues as diverse as Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre (with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra) and California’s New Folsom Prison, where she facilitates writing workshops for the inmates.

The Upstairs Lounge is a licensed restaurant and bar located at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre, 1975 Bee Street, Victoria, BC. Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner service, and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Please note this is a listening venue.
