Winterfolk is on hold as Brian Gladstone addresses health challenges

Toronto’s popular Winterfolk Festival is going on hiatus for a year, while organizer Brian Gladstone focuses on recovering from a recently diagnosed but — we’re told — curable form of leukemia.

Unlike other festivals that have had to cancel over the past year, Winterfolk is not facing financial hardship, Brian said.

The event, which books almost exclusively local talent, has been operating in the black for years, he said.

Now 20 years old, Winterfolk has become a significant cultural event in Toronto, bringing together music enthusiasts from an array of backgrounds to celebrate a diverse range of musical genres.

It also provides a bit of income for artists during a notoriously slow month.

The organizers plan to use the hiatus as an opportunity to seek input and ideas from stakeholders in order to ensure the festival’s success when it comes back in 2025.

Brian is encouraging supporters to keeping checking the festival’s website for updates.

Meanwhile, we here at Roots Music Canada wish Brian a speedy recovery and a triumphant return to form.
