Kim Beggs kicks off cross-Canada tour in support of Beneath Your Skin

0

Acclaimed Yukon singer-songwriter Kim Beggs is embarking on an extensive tour that will take her across Canada this fall in support of her seventh album, Beneath Your Skin. Kim will perform solo, displaying her ability to warm a room with just her acoustic guitar and a backwoods, life-affirming heartbeat from her stomp board.

The tour kicks off Oct. 1 with two B.C. shows on which she shares the bill with Suzie Ungerleider, before Kim heads to Ontario and the Maritimes for six weeks of appearances throughout October and November, including a showcase at the Folk Canada Conference in Hamilton on Oct. 17. [SEE DATES BELOW]

As she offers on one of the album’s most haunting tracks, “Mostly, I Am Making Friends Across This Land”: “I sing for ten or ten thousand / From Half Moon Bay across to London… I make some money, so I can pay The Man / But mostly, I am making friends across this land.”

With over two decades as a recording artist, Kim Beggs has come to be regarded as an artist of rare ability, which has garnered her approximately a dozen Canadian Folk Music and Western Canadian Music Awards nominations.

Having recorded with some of the most intriguing names in Canadian roots music production over the course of her career, Kim travelled to Montreal to record Beneath Your Skin with Howard Bilerman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Leonard Cohen, The Weather Station) at Hotel2Tango studios.

The album’s instrumental foundation is largely a reflection of three women: Kim on acoustic guitar and stomp board, Lilah Larson on electric guitar, bass and drums, and Charlotte Cornfield on electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. With additional contributions from Mike O’Brien (Eliaspie, Lisa LeBlanc) on electric guitar, the ensemble crafted atmospheric pathways to support Kim’s lyrical journey.

Beneath Your Skin displays Kim’s talents as never before. Familial history, survival, and the natural world are themes she explores throughout its 13 songs, each an interpersonal conversation between Kim and her continually growing audience.
