Exclusive preview: N’didi O and Steve Dawson – ‘Ode to Death’ video

B.C. artist N’didi Onukwulu, known professionally as N’didi O, has always been criminally under-rated for someone with such an extraordinary voice — one that recalls Billie Holiday, Etta James, Nina Simone and other giants of jazz and blues.

So it’s great to see her teamed up with Steve Dawson’s Black Hen Music label for her new album, Simple Songs for Complicated Times, which comes out on April 19.

This is by no means the first time N’didi has worked with Steve. They go way back. But this is the first time she’s had the Black Hen imprint on a record, and that can’t hurt.

Plus, she and Steve have recorded a bunch of acoustic videos for some of the tracks.

Take a look at this performance of “Ode to Death,” which we’re thrilled to premiere today.
