Sorry about the noise, but the moose and I are doing a big happy dance here at Roots Music Canada HQ.
Allison Russell is a Grammy winner! Yes!!
I was a bit bummed out in 2021 when Allison scored three nominations for her triumphant solo debut, Outside Child, and then didn’t actually get to take home any hardware.
So it feels like long-overdue recognition to see her climb up on that stage and pick up the 2024 prize for Best American Roots Performance for “Eve Was Black.”
Allison was nominated for a total of four awards this year; the others were Best Americana Album for The Returner, Outside Child‘s follow-up, and Best Song and Best Americana Performance for the title track.
Back in 2021, she was nominated for Best Americana Roots Performance (for “Nightflyer”), Best Americana Roots Song (for “Nightflyer”) and Best Americana Album for Outside Child.
Have a look at Allison’s wonderful acceptance speech from Sunday night.
Also, check out the dress! Hello!
