The Top 10 stories of 2023

It’s an annual tradition here at Roots Music Canada: reviewing our top stories of the year.

And it’s always kind of exciting to look back on what captured our attention – and what it says about where we’re at.

This year, apart from the typical excitement that comes with the CFMAs and the Penguin Eggs album of the year announcement, there was consternation over the fate of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. It’s also notable that four of our top stories this year have human rights and social justice as a central theme.

Without further ado, here are the Top 10.
