Well this is pretty cool; Check out the dance mix of Al Qahwa Ensemble’s new single

Ernie Tollar, second from left, has performed in countless Toronto-based world and jazz ensembles, including Al Qahwa.

Toronto world music group Al Qahwa Ensemble has just released the new dance remix version of the title track from their upcoming new album Weyn Allah (Where is God?). The ensemble will officially release the full album on June 1 and will celebrate with a live concert at Toronto’s Tranzac Club on Sunday, June 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. “Weyn Allah” is available on all platforms where music is streamed or downloaded. For more information please visit the group’s website | bandcamp | FB Event

“Weyn Allah,” written by Maryem Tollar, is simultaneously an acknowledgement of the imposed isolation of the past few years, a prayer to recognize the godly qualities in ourselves, and a statement of activist purpose in pursuing justice for the oppressed, as it builds slowly in layers from a quivering oud and primal beat to full, rich instrumentation, and a beautiful mass of harmonizing voices.

The dance version of “Weyn Allah,” remixed, remastered, and produced by Theo White, is just the sort of beat-heavy global banger that could easily fill dancefloors from Cairo to Paris, Istanbul, to New York city.
