For 20 years now, Canadian Music Week has staged its own Independent Music Awards as part of its annual conference and festival.

There are no awards for roots and world music and no appreciable focus on it, but many roots artists, and the occasional world act, nonetheless end up nominated.

This year’s edition of the awards ceremony will be lived streamed from the El Mocambo in Toronto on May 30, and will feature special guests Walk Off The Earth, Iskw? and Tom Wilson.

CMW announced the nominees yesterday.

Because there are no roots/world categories, it’s hard to narrow it down just to categories of interest, so here is the full list of nominees with those we’re cheering for in bold.
