The Winnipeg Crankie festival is streaming well beyond Winnipeg this weekend

Winnipeg house concert network Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous is thrilled to present the 2021 Winnipeg Crankie Festival, streaming online for FREE this weekend.

The festival celebrates crankies, which are the forerunner of modern film, and combines visual art, music and the written word to create an interactive experience for all ages. It is one of only a handful in North America celebrating crankies and the art of storytelling within one festival.

This year, the Crankie Festival has assembled an incomparable lineup, featuring local and international acts, streaming on Facebook and Youtube.

The performance schedule is as follows:

Friday, March 5

Sunday, March  7

Designed as an interactive and participatory online festival, participants will be able to personally engage with the music, art, workshops, and fellowship within our community.

As a special presentation, on Saturday March 6 we’re in cahoots with the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention’s Spring Sitch, featuring a Crankie Cabaret at 2 p.m. CT.  On that day, we can all go over to the BOTMC Facebook page to watch their crowdsourced crankies!

Workshop!

We are also presenting Singing with Coco! a free, interactive workshop with Coco Love Alcorn as a lead-up to the Crankie Festival. This workshop will take place live via Zoom, and Coco will lead us through some simple call-and-response singing and some harmonies and rhythms and also tickle our playful sides with wee forays into the world of vocal improvisation.

All ages are welcome. Registration is required. Workshop registrants will receive an immediate email confirmation upon registering.  A link to join will be emailed 24 hours prior to workshop start time.

Donations

This year, we are pleased to offer the third Winnipeg Crankie Festival FREE online and are asking you to contribute what you can. Donations can be made using our Paypal account, HERE. Every donation, no matter the amount, allows Home Routes to continue to provide performance opportunities in Canada and beyond.
