This item crossed our desks and we thought it worth passing along to the community.

If you attended Folk Alliance Memphis in 2010 or 2011, you may remember a documentary film crew of three shooting throughout the conference. Well, that was me, Sara Terry, the Director, along with my DP, Henry Jacobson and Producer, Diana O’Donnell. The film is called FOLK.

It’s been an amazing 18 months of shooting, travel, hearing some incredible music and meeting some wonderful people. It’s going to make for a great documentary, which you may even end up in if you were present during filming! Shooting is almost complete and we’ve done the whole thing for less than $15K so far. Now, we’re at the really critical point where we need money to move forward into post-production. So, I am joining the world of crowdfunding, depending on the kindness of friends and strangers to build a community of support for this film about you and your incredible community of folk musicians.

Our Kickstarter campaign has launched, and we’ve got some cool rewards… I hope you’ll consider making a donation at any level – and also that you’ll share our link with any of your friends or colleagues who you think might be interested, and post it on your Facebook page or Twitter about it: You can view a trailer of the film and find out more here:

Lastly, I wanted to share these words with you from my longtime friend and wonderful producer Tom Dube:

“My dear friend Sara Terry is directing a documentary film about the substance that fuels most all of my friends and fellow toilers: folk music as we know it today. Please give this advance trailer a look/listen, and kick in some $ to help cover the expense of bringing this important and necessary work- filled with love- to the world. You’ll sleep better, you’ll write better, you’ll play better, and you’ll love better.”

Thanks so much and I look forward to seeing you in Memphis again in February, it will be our final shoot.

Sara Terry
Director, FOLK
