Ian Foster and the craft of the song

Newfoundland-based singer-songwriter Ian Foster is in the midst of a highly prolific musical period. On the verge of his fifth studio-album release over the past five years, Foster has quickly gained a reputation on The Rock as an excellent multi-instrumentalist and gifted lyricist.

Ian Foster is also a thoughtful craftsman, and one well-versed in his craft. In The Woodshed Sessions, no. 30, Foster talks about co-writing with music legend Ron Hynes, and his secret to successfully accessing songwriting inspiration.

As usual, the session features samples of three musical numbers, and in Foster’s case, they are great examples of his diverse material.
