The spirit of The Laws

Roots songwriting power couple John and Michele Law have made a career out of indie musicianship. Despite, or maybe because of this DIY ethic, The Laws are consummate professionals, who seem to be happiest when headed to their next show.

Making music that blends authenticity and accessibility in a Nashville-friendly sound, The Laws have won crowds on both sides of the border—as well as the songwriting award at Merlefest in 2007, a first for a Canadian act.

There’s a spirit to their songwriting that’s reflected in The Laws’ manner on stage and in person: country-tinged, cool, and connected.

We caught up with The Laws (accompanied by mandolin master Jason Dennie) in The Woodshed Sessions, Episode 24 to talk about Southern accents, Canadian roots and living well on the road.
