Goderich Celtic Roots Festival
In this installment of our summer folk/roots festival series, we take a peek inside the Goderich Celtic Festival, which ran from August 6th through August 8th. However for many participants, it began on August 2nd, as the festival also features the unique Goderich Celtic College, a week-long study of Celtic music, dance and craft art.
Our embedded video-reporter for the Goderich Celtic Festival is Nuala Kennedy, a singer and flautist playing traditional music from Scotland, Ireland and beyond. She took the Roots Music Canada festi-cam to the shores of Lake Huron, Ontario and backstage at the Goderich Celtic Festival.
(From the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, website) The aim of the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival and Celtic College is to foster the preservation and continuation of traditional Celtic art forms through exposure, participation and education. Forming new generations of artists and participants is absolutely essential to the survival of these living traditions.
Roots Music Canada is grateful to the many talented volunteer-reporters who return photos, video and text from various Canadian summer folk festivals. Coming up: Ottawa Folk Festival, Islands Folk Festival (Duncan, BC), Trout Forest Music Festival, (Thunder Bay, ON) and Stewart Park Folk Festival (Perth, Ontario).
