Maple Blues Series: Shakura S’Aida

We conclude our Maple Blues Awards video-interview series with a look at 2009 double-nominee Shakura S’Aida’s remarkable rise from blues-obscurity to blues-star, thanks to her enormous talent, a second-place finish at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (2008) and a great solo-blues-debut CD, Blueprint.

2010 promises more success for Shakura as she heads off to play in the Blues Caravan in Europe, and is set to release her second blues-solo CD, Brown Sugar, on Ruf Records (Germany).

The Maple Blues Awards are Monday, January 18, 2010 at Koerner Hall in Toronto.

Like most musicians, Shakura is a huge fan of all kinds of music. On our Roots Music Canada Facebook Page, fans can see just what Shakura thinks of Canadian opera star, soprano Measha Brueggergosman.
