Maple Blues Series: Harrison Kennedy

Hamilton Ontario’s Harrison Kennedy is nominated for four Maple Blues Awards, and on Monday, January 18, we will  learn just how many he wins! Acoustic Act of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Recording of the Year – which he produced himself – called One Dog Barkin’. In this piece, you’ll learn about Harrison’s association with the late music legends Lonnie Johnson and Jackie Washington, his thoughts on the links between Blues, Folk and Roots music, and you’ll hear samples of Harrison in concert at the Axis Gallery and Grill in Toronto, January 9, 2010.

Harrison Kennedy is competing in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee on January 23, 2010.  Stay tuned for news on how he, Julian Fauth and other Canadian entries fare at the competition. In our next Maple Blues Series’ post, we’ll speak with a woman who once finished second in the competition, and whose career was greatly energized by the result, Shakura S’Aida.
