Raise the Roof and Raise the Rent
for Andy Frank

Andy Frank of Roots Music Canada has been a tireless supporter of the Canadian folk and roots scene. He has interviewed, hosted, reviewed, webcast, documented or simply raved about the work of hundreds of independent musicians, helping them realize their own potential as creative artists.

Now, the music community is about to return the favour. Andy recently got the shock of his life: a diagnosis of cancer of the colon. This will mean some serious downtime with no income for Andy, as he clears his schedule to allow himself time for surgery, chemo treatment, and recuperation.

While Andy does the work of healing, some of Toronto’s best musicians will work to bring him healing energy, with a concert at Hugh’s Room on Thursday, January 26, 2012.

This all-star benefit concert will feature a stellar lineup of roots, folk and world music all-stars, including Layah Jane, Suzie Vinnick, Bill Garrett & Curly Boy Stubbs, Jay Aymar, Rob Szabo, Crabtree & Mills, Jon Brooks, Rosemary Phelan, Annabelle Chvostek, Shawna Caspi, Grit Laskin, Kirsten Jones, HOTCHA!, and Janine Stoll with accompaniment by Trevor Mills and Gregg Lawless & more TBA, hosted by David Newland of Roots Music Canada.

The show will be broadcast LIVE across the Roots Music Canada fan network online and will raise much-needed funds to help Andy and his dear wife Helen along on his journey to wellness.

Watch this space for updates on the lineup! Reserve your spot now at Hugh’s Room.

Dear dear Andy,
Paul and I will be in Guatemala on January 26, but I promise you that our prayers, meditations for strength, and our love will be there, in Hugh’s Room, with everybody else. Truly, each day we send our love from here, and, you know, as we do, that it gets to you completely. Good for you to be taking time to heal. You are an inspiration, a loving soul, and a beaming source of light to all of us.
With love, Amy

May you let go of the necessary patterns to release the illness with grace and ease. May you go forward in the life to the beauty that is yours and that you have willingly shared in the gift of your music. My family roots are in Novy, so While I am many miles away in Mass
if I may continue to assist in anyway do not hesitate to contact me.

My gratitude to David for the gig and to Rick for the live streaming is here:http://frankfolk.com (and if you wish to follow along with this journey, I will be blogging about it in hopefully humourous, honest and informative terms throughout). Helen and I thank you for your kind remarks.

Hi Andy,
I just heard the disturbing news about your diagnosis. I am sending positive thoughts your way and wishing you a speedy recovery. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make your benefit at Hugh’s Room due to a previous engagement. Get well soon. You can beat this. I know you will!
Sincerely,
Al Lerman

andy, friend and fellow storyteller, I send love, hugs, healing and positive thoughts to you and Helen. I will make arrangements to travel from Ottawa. You are a kind, hilarious, thoughtful and meaningful soul who cares where you step on your path in this world. You continue to inspire and ground so many of us, who are lucky to be called friend.
Love and hugs, Dawn (and Oronnia).

6 1/2 years ago my wife was diagnosed with advanced Stage IV colorectal cancer. After three months of combined chemo+radiation, she underwent an 8 1/2 hour surgery that was, needless to say, quite invasive. Although there have been some other issues related to the damage caused by necessary surgery, she is cancer free today. Our team at the Cancer Centre of Eastern Ontario in Kingston [close to where we live] did amazing work, when the initial response was only an offer of palliative care.

As the CCS ads say, Cancer can be beaten. Our prayers and very best wishes heading your way, Andy.

All blessings!
Brian
