Best of 2011 – Musicians

Our series on the best songs of 2011 continues today with choices made by some of the musicians who make the very thing that brings our community together. Some of them don’t play by the rules (it is hard to choose just one song!), but we think you’ll find their choices are diverse as they are:

kd lang and the Siss Boom Bang — “I Confess” (Sing it Loud)
—chosen by Brandy Zdan

Jadea Kelly — “Rosin” (Eastbound Platform)
Rosin by Jadea Kelly
and

Ariana Gillis — “John and The Monster” (Forget Me Not)
— chosen by Dave Borins

“I expect Sarah Slean has something pretty special on those new CDs.”

Sarah Slean – Amen by SarahSlean
—chosen by Marie-Lynn Hammond

Rob Vaarmeyer (of Andrew Neville and the Poor Choices — “A Big Truck Brought It” (unreleased)

—chosen by Jonathan Bird

Gillian Welch — “Hard Times” (From the Harrow and the Harvest)
—chosen by Nancy Dutra

Brilliant choices, every one. k.d.’s performance at the Winnipeg Folk Festival was the best show of the year in my book… perfect timing, pacing, songs and vocals, and a terrific band…
