Each year, the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals (OCFF) honours the work of an individual or group that has made significant contributions to Ontario’s folk music community. The award is named after Estelle Klein, a long-time advocate of Canadian folk music and one of the early founders of the folk festival scene in this country.
Renowned record and radio producer and folk community leader, Paul Mills, is the 2011 recipient of the Estelle Klein Award. His outstanding reputation has been earned over the course of a long and accomplished career.
Roots Music Canada was asked to produce the above film, which was presented at the OCFF Conference on October 15, 2011 at Niagara Falls, Ontario. It was an honour to do it. We would like to thank all of the participants in the film, and editor Rick Scicluna for his lovely final touches.

Congratulations Paul! The award couldn’t go to a more deserving and delightful person. What an impact you’ve made on folk music.
Paul – You are a national treasure. So many things that I never knew about you. You’re an inspiration to us all. A much-deserved accolade.
Congratulations Paul!! What a wonderful and well-deserved honour! I am so proud that I can say “I knew you when ….”!
I remember the Christmas you got your first guitar – the gateway instrument that was to derail a promising engineering career. Still, things didn’t turn out all bad
Congratulations, Paul!
It’s wonderful to see and hear the much-deserved accolades from everyone on the video, saying out loud what we have all felt for all the years we have known you. Yes, I’m still two years older than you but we’re the same generation, and I’ve had the privilege, the honour and the pleasure of knowing and hearing you for far too many years to mention. It’s about time that I also said these things out loud.
Congratulations and love to you and all the Mills family.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words! Thanks also to everyone who took the time to contribute to this video with their memories and expressions of love and support. And of course thanks to Andy and Rick for doing such a great job on the production of this video.
I feel so blessed!
